On Stewardship
From Marylou Steeden
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- Matthew 6:19-21
These are familiar words to most of us but let's sit with them a moment. What does it mean to have treasures in heaven? What does it mean to have your heart in heaven?
According to Rev. Daphne Gascot Arias, Claremont School of Theology, commenting on this scripture, "This is not merely about money or resources; it's about living consciously, purposefully, and faithfully: it is about letting our decisions reflect trust in the God who provides. It is about joyously taking on this divine obligation to be agents of God's will for the cosmos."
Our Stewardship theme for the coming year is There Our Hearts Will Be. We are invited into a season of deep spiritual alignment — an honest, hopeful exploration of how our practices, priorities, and resources reveal what truly claims our hearts.
