Heat Respite Lunch Pack Kick-off!

ALL are welcome (and needed!) to join the first summer lunch pack after worship on Sunday, June 8. We will prepare 200 lunches for the Arizona Faith Network cooling center at First United Church of Christ – Phoenix, a partner with their neighbor Grace Lutheran.

Options:

  • Join the meat and cheese sandwich line

  • Join the PB&J sandwich line

  • Pack lunch bags with granola bars, chips, napkins & a pre-printed note

  • 1-2 drivers are needed for delivery to First Church mid-Monday morning, on June 9 and June 23

Fruit, condiments, and electrolyte packets will go boxed separately for ease of storage and distribution.

Future lunch pack dates are Sundays June 22, July 27, and August 3. Mark your calendars! The Northeast Valley Consortium heat respite project is funded by a grant from Ascension Lutheran Church-Scottsdale, Thrivent Action Team funds, with chips donated by Foothills Food Bank. Any additional contributions or economies will help us extend heat respite support into September 2025, including a possible additional pallet of water for extreme heat in the early fall.

What is Arizona Faith Network? Established in 1946, Arizona Faith Network is an “interfaith organization dedicated to bringing people together to promote peace and understanding through interfaith education and dialogue as well as healing of the world through collaborative social action.” One of AFN’s projects is coordinating a heat relief network with faith-based partners.
