Grand Canyon Synod Global Engagement Team Appeal: The Book Project for Senegal
Our companion synod, ELS (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Senegal), is headquartered in Fatick, Senegal. One of the many programs the church offers in the Fatick community is a primary school. Like so many education systems in African countries and other parts of the world, the students in Senegal must purchase their textbooks or workbooks.
For most of us, the cost for a complete set is minimal, $25. But for many, if not most, families this is not a cost they can afford. Books also cannot be handed down as they are written in, and the curriculum can change from year to year.
The Grand Canyon Engagement Team (GET) would like to cover the cost of the books for as many students as possible for the upcoming school year! A $25 donation will cover the cost for one student to receive the books they need. A $100 donation will cover a family of four children! The projected enrollment next year is almost $200!! All monies raised will go to the school, and hopefully we will have extra funds to also cover the teachers’ handbooks and other supplies. The campus is in need of major repairs, the school is working to expand to higher grades, and the need is great.
Donations are needed by August 20th and can be made through the synod office. Additional information and/or questions can be addressed to Cheryl Jones, 480-620-8126.
Thank you for your support, Grand Canyon Synod Global Engagement Team
