Stewarding NJLC Name-Tags: Passing the Baton

For years, Roger and Beulah Westland, have stewarded the creation of name tags for New Journey’s members and friends.

As a matter of hospitality and celebrating our congregation’s values of inclusion and welcome, they have ensured everyone is issued a name tag. Roger and Beulah have kept a watchful eye on new visitors, and if you visit more than once, a nametag will be waiting for you. We suspect this is because they know how vital it is to be known by our name. In a community of faith, knowing names is how we say: “you belong here.” It is how we affirm God’s promise in the prophet Isaiah:

"But now thus says the Lord,
    he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name; you are mine.” (43:1)

After years of stewarding our names tags, Roger and Beulah, are entrusting this important ministry to Karen Bowman. Join me in thanking God for their years of stewarding NJLC name tags and exemplyfing the values God has instilled in us: radical welcome and a place to belong for every person who comes through our doors.

Thank you, Roger. Thank you, Beulah. We are grateful to God for you.

Karen, thank you, for saying “yes” to this ministry and taking up the baton of ensuring all people find welcome and belonging in our community. May God bless you in keeping this ministry.

With love and gratitude,

Pastor Beth Gallen
