NEVC August Update

The Northeast Valley Consortium Steering Committee met on August 19.

  • Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission: Progress is beginning to be visible for the water project, supported by 40-40-40 Lenten Challenge funds through Lutheran World Relief, including the large cement pad for the chlorinated water tank to come. The food bank and kitchen at NELM are serving lots of people.

  • The Heat Respite Lunch Pack team has been able to extend the program into September, with New Journey, Christ the Lord, New Covenant, and perhaps Ascension adding additional lunch packs, water, and electrolytes to extend our support for four additional weeks.

  • Community House, Scottsdale: NEVC may partner to provide a Monday night dinner later in the Fall for this program serving persons experiencing homelessness, a project of South Scottsdale Presbyterian Church.

  • Designation of the May 29 Feast of the Ascension offering: $127 will go to Casa de la Misericordia asylum shelter for food or fall clothing needs.

  • ELCA Hunger Leaders Conference: Kris Bartanen will represent the NEVC, along with 5 other Grand Canyon Synod members, at the  September 18-21, in Columbus, Ohio.

  • New Journey will need to name at least one new lay representative to the NEVC Steering Committee for a two-year term beginning January 2026.
