Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMAz.org) Urges Speaking Up on “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday

Providing funds and food to help feed hungry people is an important act of first-order change. Changing underlying structural factors that foster hunger requires second-order change. U.S. hunger programs are largely managed via the U.S. Farm Bill, which has yet to pass in Congress. Meanwhile, H.R.1 has caused over 4.5 million Americans to lose food assistance (www.farmaid.org). Many millions more are slated to lose access to food assistance as additional provisions of H.R. 1 unfold, with Arizona in a particularly precarious situation as states are required to assume a greater portion of food assistance costs.

Please consider sending a simple G.W.O.H. message to a Member of Congress or a State Legislator, either by email on their website, or by picking up a red NJLC advocacy envelope on Sunday and sending a postcard or a note. LAMA suggests a simple message like: “I am a person of faith in your district. Today our congregation is serving our neighbors through “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. I urge you to support policies that reduce hunger, protect health care, expand housing, welcome immigrants, and ensure every neighbor can live with dignity.”  You can, of course, write your own message!
