From the Grand Canyon Synod:
Churches Unite for Phoenix’s Heat Respite Project
The Grand Canyon Synod recently highlighted the inspiring work being done through the Northeast Valley Consortium (NEVC) and its second annual Heat Respite Project—a powerful example of faith in action.
As Phoenix continues to face dangerously high summer temperatures, local churches have come together to support their neighbors in need. Through the Heat Respite Project, congregations are providing essential resources—meals, bottled water, and supplies—to cooling centers across the city. These centers offer a safe haven for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, helping them stay cool and hydrated during the most extreme heat waves.
This collaborative effort reflects the heart of NEVC’s mission: to serve the community with compassion, dignity, and practical support. By pooling resources and working together, churches are making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable residents.
