Food for Kidz Update

Dear People of New Journey,

We’re writing to share an important update about New Journey’s leadership of the community food pack with Food for Kidz—one that will shape the future of our congregation’s mission.

After thoughtful consideration, the Congregation Council unanimously voted last month to bring the ministry of the food pack to a close. This decision reflects our long-term commitment to stewarding New Journey’s mission, recognizing that the physical, administrative, and fundraising demands of the program have stretched our community’s capacity.

Even as this chapter ends, our commitment to hunger ministry continues. We remain active in the consortium of congregations packing life-saving lunches, delivering water and electrolyte powder to those most affected by the heat, and supporting partners like La Casa de Misericordia, ELCA World Hunger, Good Gifts, Family Promise, Extended Hands Food Bank, and others. We also continue to advocate for policies that address the root causes of hunger in our communities and around the world.

This is a bold and faithful step—one that creates space to listen for how God is calling us next to serve and feed a hungry world.

We give heartfelt thanks to Gwen and Denny Rubenow, Pat Corey, Dave and Leslie Bubke, Bob Rubenow, and all who have helped lead and organize the food pack over the years. Their efforts have been a beautiful expression of God’s love in action and this congregation’s deep commitment to serving others in Jesus’ name.

The current food pack team has been asked to explore whether another church, organization, or civic group may be interested in taking on leadership of the food pack.

If you have any questions, please reach out to a member of the Congregation Council.

With gratitude,
New Journey Congregation Council
