2025 NEVC Heat Respite

  • New Journey Water Pallet delivered to First Church, Phoenix: Our 2025 heat respite project kicked off on Monday, May 12, with the delivery of a pallet of water to First United Church of Christ in central Phoenix. Given the extended heat season, if additional funds become available through gifts or savings in the heat respite component of New Journey’s mission spending plan, we’ll provide another pallet in the late summer to Wesley United Methodist Church in south Phoenix.

  • Why are we packing both meat & cheese and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches?

It’s been a recent tradition – even a point of pride – to provide ham and cheese sandwiches in New Journey lunches. With the counsel of Arizona Faith Network heat respite leaders, including those at First UCC and at Wesley UMC, we will pack approximately half ham & cheese and half PB&J because (a) some unsheltered folks have health issues with meat and (b) food safety, given limited refrigeration, is a challenge for lunches distributed from First Church and Wesley to nearby cooling pods.

  • Remember: NJLC lunch packs are on Sundays after worship on June 9, June 23, July 28, and August 4 so that all may participate.
